After three months, all services of electricity dept to go online: Cabral


Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Thursday announced that after three months, citizens will not need to come to electricity department offices as all services of the department will be online.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of smart conversion of overhead to underground electrical network in Panaji and Ribandar, under Imagine Panaji Smarty City Development Limited, the minister said that the government has decided to make all services of electricity department available online which will help the common man to apply and make payment of electricity connection from home, besides registering complaints regarding power supply.
“After three months, the common man will not need to come to electricity offices for their work. They can apply and make complaints from their home,” he added.
Cabral further said that the department will also install smart electricity metres in the state which will begin from Tiswadi taluka under smart city mission.
He informed that the estimated cost of the project of smart conversion of overhead to underground electrical network for entire Panaji city, including Ribandar, is Rs 63 crore, which will be completed in 12 months.
“Under the guidance of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, electricity department has worked out new ideas under ease of doing business, which will be a reality after the code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections comes to an end,” he said.
He said that a draft of solar power policy has been uploaded on the website for suggestions and objections and added that soon there will be a separate department for renewable energy.
Speaking to media, Cabral said that streetlights installed by different agencies like PWD, GSIDC, GTDC and others will be under one roof in future.
Director of IPSCDL Sidharth Kuncalienkar said that various facilities like power supply, water supply, roads, drains and beautification of open spaces will be covered in Ribandar area under smart city mission.
He also informed that installation of CCTV network in Panaji city will be extended to Ribandar area.
Chief executive officer of IPSCDL Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri, corporators of CCP, Rupesh Halankar and Aarti Halankar were also present for the function.
