Panaji: Yet another confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) has surfaced in the state, taking the total number of positive cases of the contagious virus in the state to seven. The latest case is of a 32-year-old man, who travelled from Santiago (USA) to San Francisco and then came down to Goa via New Delhi.
The man is currently admitted to the ESI Hospital in
Margao, which has been designated for admitting COVID-19 positive patients.
In a public notice, the directorate of health services
(DHS) has stated that the man flew to Goa from New Delhi via Air India flight
AI 883 and reached Goa on March 22. The health authority has appealed to all
those who had travelled in this particular flight to visit the nearest health
centre and get screened for
As per the media bulletin released by DHS, out of 84
samples, 25 have tested negative for the contagious virus, while reports of 59
samples are awaited.
A total of 19 patients suspected of having COVID-19
infection are currently in the isolation ward of the Goa Medical College and
Hospital at Bambolim. This also includes five fresh suspected cases of COVID-19
reported in the state on Saturday.
Till date, Goa has seen 115 suspected cases of the virus.
On Saturday, six more passengers were placed under home quarantine; around 992
persons have isolated themselves in their homes.
At present, six persons have been quarantined at the
sub-district hospital in Ponda, 44 persons have been quarantined at the Margao
Residency and nine at the Old Goa Residency. Eight persons have been
quarantined at Mayem Residency and two persons are at the sub-district hospital
Meanwhile, the DHS has issued a public notice asking all
those who travelled on the Air India flight from Mumbai to Goa on March 19 to
report to the nearest health centre after it was found that one of the COVID-19
positive patients had taken the particular flight.
“Patient detected positive of COVID-19 on April 3 at GMC
has a travel history from Kempton Park to Johannesburg to Kenya to Mumbai to
Goa. From Mumbai to Goa, he travelled via Air India flight AI 661 and reached
Goa on March 19,” reads the notice.
“People currently in Goa who had travelled on the said
flight are appealed to immediately isolate yourself (home quarantine) and
report to helpline 104, call 0832-2421810 / 2225538, or report to the nearest
health centres,” it reads further.
