Panaji: Smelling a conspiracy in the disappearance of the
victim girl in the alleged rape case linked to Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate,
the Congress party candidate for the Panaji bypoll, the Bharatiya Janata Party
on Tuesday said that it has already urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to track
the victim at the earliest and ensure justice to her.
State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar told the pressmen
that no one knows when the girl went missing from the rehabilitation centre at
a convent in South Goa where she was lodged.
“Her disappearance gathers importance as the court is set
to frame charges against Monserrate in the alleged minor rape case on June 3,
during the next hearing in the matter,” he stated.
Speaking further, Tendulkar said that there is an urgent
need on the part of police to search for the girl, as she is supposed to have
left the convent without any money. He also brushed aside the allegation of the
Congress party that the BJP could be behind the disappearance of the girl.
Meanwhile, stating that there is a conspiracy against its
candidate for the Panaji bypoll Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, the Congress
party on Tuesday said that the BJP could be behind the sudden disappearance of
the victim girl.

“It is quite possible that BJP, with the help of police,
has hidden the girl and is trying to create a picture before the Panaji voters
that the victim girl has been abducted,” said Goa Pradesh Congress Committee
president Girish Chodankar while addressing a press conference in Panaji.
He said that in the past, the BJP has resorted to such
tactics for political gains and claimed that their plan is to create an
atmosphere of confusion amongst the voters before the May 19 bypoll.
“It’s a conspiracy. The girl went missing on April 28 but
before this, she had also gone missing on four occasions which were never
shared with the media. It is clear that in view of the bypoll, BJP is trying to
create hype, as it will be a political disadvantage to Babush and advantage to
all other candidates in the fray,” he said.
Even as Chodankar feared for the life of the victim girl,
he said that the girl may return back to the shelter home after elections.
The GPCC president said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant
should be held responsible, as he also holds the charge of the Home department.
He said the government and the police should trace the girl and provide
protection to her at the earliest.
Chodankar also said that there could be a threat to her
life. He said that BJP national president Amit Shah is capable of doing
anything including anyone’s murder for political benefits.
Chairman of the party’s legal cell Adv Carlos Ferreira
said that there was a possibility that the victim girl could have gone for a
party or a wedding ceremony and may not be missing at all as projected by the
