Carmona hotel to comply with HC order

Carmona: In keeping with the order issued by the High
Court of Bombay at Goa, the Verda Hotel has said they are not accepting further
bookings and stopping the spa and bar at the hotel.

The compliance with the High Court order emerged after
the village panchayat of Carmona conducted an inspection of the hotel on

Saturday.

Speaking to this daily after inspection, sarpanch Allwyn
Jorge said that they had partially stopped operations at the hotel. “After
serving the stop work order, we had received a request from the hotel asking
for an extension to May 31 which we rejected at our body meeting on Wednesday
and decided to hold an inspection today. We found that the hotel had around
eight occupants and assured that they had stopped bookings. They have also
stopped the spa and bar in the hotel,” he said.

He added that the panchayat had to receive an official
copy of the High Court order and that further course of action would be decided
at the next panchayat body meeting. According to the High Court order, the
hotel was given interim relief but was ordered to stop accepting further
bookings and to desist from operating the spa and serving alcohol in the
restaurant.

The panchayat body had in October last year decided to
withhold the renewal of the hotel’s trade license after locals complained of
loud music and it was found that the resort was functioning under a residential
license.

The South Goa District Court had last month challenged
the additional panchayat director order which was set aside. Following this,
the panchayat had then issued a stop work order on May 2. The hotel meanwhile,
have now filed an appeal to the district court’s order in the High Court of
Bombay at Goa.
