Centre notifies 6 eco-sensitive zones in Goa

Panaji: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has notified Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary and Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary as six eco-sensitive zones around wildlife protected areas in Goa.

The activities that are prohibited, regulated and
permeated in eco-sensitive zones are defined in the notification.

The committees to monitor the compliance of the
notification have also been constituted by the government.

The state level eco-sensitive zone monitoring committee
in its meeting decided that as the land details are already available with the
town and country planning department, the chief town planner will get the draft
zonal master plan prepared for the eco-sensitive zones.

The state government has extended the term of the
committee to prepare the zonal master plan falling in the respective districts
within a period of three months.

The committee for North Goa district comprises of the
chief town planner (administration) as chairman and Deputy Conservator of
Forests (wildlife) (north), Additional Collector (north), director of mines,
director of tourism, director of environment and Milind Y Gadgil as
members.

The committee for South Goa district comprises of the
chief town planner (administration) as chairman and Deputy Conservator of
Forests (wildlife) (south), Additional Collector (south), director of mines,
director of tourism, director of environment and Sandeep V K Azrekar
as the members.
