Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, along with all the 10
Congress MLAs who split to merge their party’s two-third legislative wing into
the Bharatiya Janata Party, will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other
senior BJP leaders in New Delhi on Thursday.
All ten rebel Congress MLAs left for Delhi late Wednesday
evening. They were also accompanied by Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo and local
party office bearers. Lobo told media persons at the state Secretariat in
Porvorim before leaving for Delhi that it was the Chief Minister who took the
lead to approach the Congress MLAs for the merger.
“It is for the
party and the Chief Minister to take a call, along with the legislature party
of the BJP, if anybody is to be dropped for inducting into the cabinet,” said
Lobo responding to a question on whether he was expecting a cabinet berth.
When questioned about the fate of Goa Forward Party in
the BJP-led coalition government, Lobo said, “I don’t know anything about GFP.
The decision will be taken tomorrow by the party in Delhi. We have to keep in
mind that this government still has to complete three more years.”
