Panaji: Stating that casinos are a part of the tourism
industry, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday stated that casinos cannot be
removed directly, as they are like many other things which have been a part of
the state for a long time.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said that many
tourists visit Goa only to play in the casinos and, therefore, casinos will be
displayed in Goa tourism’s promotion video.
Sawant said that in order to run a smooth
government, many things which have been a part of the state for a long time
cannot be directly removed. “We never said that casinos will be removed from
Goa. It is a demand of many,” he said, adding that the government has to
promote tourism activities considering what tourists like and also what is good
for the state. He said that one should not forget that many tourists come down
to Goa only for the sake of casinos.
The Chief Minister also stressed on promoting cultural,
medical and hinterland tourism. “We have to focus on promoting cultural as well
as hinterland tourism besides medical tourism in the state,” he said.
Stating that he has already directed the concerned
officials to explore new avenues for tourism, Sawant said that Goa should open
wildlife sanctuaries for tourism promotion in a restricted manner.
