Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on Monday, told the
State Legislative Assembly that extending the retirement age of the teaching
faculty of the Goa University would be unfair to highly educated youth awaiting
such jobs at the university.
Earlier, in a Zero Hour Mention, the Margao MLA, Digambar
Kamat said that the government should consider extending the retirement age of
the teaching faculty of the Goa University to 65 years, just like that of the
teaching staff at the Goa Medical College.
The Chief Minister told the House that if such a step is
taken then it would be injustice on the young postgraduates, who are awaiting
“Goa has lot of young postgraduates, or those who are
pursuing their doctorate studies, and therefore, I will have to think about the
extension in retirement age of the Goa University teaching faculty,” he added,
pointing out that the case of Goa Medical College teaching staff is different,
as there are not many postgraduates in medical subjects, available in Goa.
