CM rules out white paper on Mhadei water dispute

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday rejected the united Opposition MLAs’ demand
for a white paper on the Mhadei water dispute.

Replying to media
queries on the sidelines of a function held at the police headquarters in the
city on Wednesday, Sawant said that he
is confident of winning the Mhadei matter in the Supreme Court.

The Chief Minister said that he is serious about the
issue, adding that “our case is strong
and I am sure we will win”.

Sawant urged the Opposition to support the government.

“It is the issue of the state and not of Pramod Sawant.
For this they should have supported (the government),” Sawant remarked,
alleging that the Opposition is playing politics on the water dispute.

Sawant questioned the
Opposition parties as to what they had done on
the Mhadei water dispute when they were in power. Sawant claimed that
those who are seeking a white paper on
the dispute, in fact, had messed up the issue.

On Monday, the Opposition MLAs had demanded that the
state government must come out with a white paper on the Mhadei water dispute
in the next 30 days.

The MLAs from the Goa Forward Party, the Congress and the
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak

Party, and Independent legislator Rohan Khaunte had
threatened to launch a joint agitation if the government failed to fulfil their
demand of the white paper within the stipulated timeframe.

On the transportation of extracted iron ore, Sawant
said the government has taken the
decision and that permissions will be given.
