Sankhali: Thirteen new COVID-19 positive cases were recorded in Sankhali in Bicholim taluka on Monday, taking the town’s tally to 26.
Senior government functionary Pravinjay Pandit said that eight COVID cases were reported in Desai Nagar, three in Bhandarwada and one each at Housing Board and Gauthan.
However, no new case has been reported in Sal village of Bicholim taluka, which has seen a total of 30 positive cases.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is the Sankhali MLA, expressed deep concerns over the increasing COVID cases in the town.
On Monday, 167 swab samples were collected and their reports are awaited, Sankhali health officer Dr Uttam Desai said.
Muzawarwada, Desai Nagar, Bhandarwada, Housing Board, Harvalem and Gauthan in the taluka have been sealed.
Groceries are being handed out to the people living to three wards of Sankhali.
The Sankhali municipal council convened an urgent meeting to discuss the worsening COVID situation in the town.
The spike in COVID cases in Sankhali has forced people of Karapur village to go under lockdown from June 29 to July 6.
