DJ Ashwin Alvares was assaulted by a group of five people outside a Colva restaurant while he was proceeding home after completing his show on Tuesday night.
While Ashwin was entering his car the alleged accused restrained and assaulted him with fist blows causing serious injuries to his face. He was admitted to the Margao Hospicio Hospital for treatment.
Police said that the assailants also took away his musical instruments and damaged some of his equipment. According to police some people from Mumbai had come to the restaurant in a group and the culprits are yet to be arrested.
Police said that the alleged accused was asking the DJ to play beyond the time limit, which he refused. Agitated with his reply, the group caught him outside the restaurant and assaulted him.
Colva police inspector Filomeno Costa said that an offence has been registered against four persons including two known persons and efforts were on to arrest them. Costa provided their names as Anthony Fernandes and Freddy Menezes. Police sources said that two bouncers were also involved in assaulting Ashwin. Colva police recorded the complaint of the injured at Margao’s Hospicio Hospital. An offence under section 323, 506, 504, 341, 352 read with 34 of IPC has been registered for restraining Ashwin, assaulting, abusing and threatening him with dire consequences. Police said that the panchanama will be conducted and further action will be taken. Police said that the injured will be discharged on Wednesday evening and other legal formalities will be done.
Ashwin when contacted said that there were 8 persons and five of them assaulted him outside the restaurant including two bouncers. He said that the men were drunk and were forcing him to play beyond the time limit. Further investigation is in progress.
