Goa’s Patent Information Centre to take off soon



The Patent Information Centre set up by the government to
promote patent-related applications from individuals and firms in the state is
in the process of becoming fully functional.

The department of science and technology informed that
through the Goa State Council for Science and Technology, it had initiated the
process to set up Patent Information Centre under the scheme of the central
government’s department of science and technology.

“The same got approved during the end of the financial
year 2018-19 and will be made fully functional by the end of August, 2019,” it
revealed, adding that no one in the state has received patent in the year

“For the purpose of effective functioning of the PIC, a
nodal officer has been nominated from the Goa State Council for Science and
Technology, along with appointment of one project mode staff on contractual
basis through the funding of the central government department,” the state
department of science and technology stated, pointing out, “Both the above officials
were provided training in patents and other IPRs in the month of May 2019 at
the Rajeev Gandhi National

adding that the patent holders would however not be given any extra benefits by
state government.

The state, it may be recalled, had gone through a lot of
struggle in acquiring a patent for the cashew feni.
