High-profile flesh trade racket busted in Calangute; 2 arrested

Calangute police on Thursday busted a high-profile prostitution racket wherein they arrested two pimps and rescued 3 girls in a raid at Maddowado, Calangute.
Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi said that the police had been keeping a close watch on the two alleged pimps for the past 10 days.
On Thursday, the police laid a trap with the help of a decoy customer and arrested the two persons. The girls were rescued in the presence of an NGO member.
As per information available, the decoy customer was made ready for the raid and contact was established with the pimps. As soon as the deal was finalised, the decoy customer was called at Maddowado for delivery of victim girls.
The police said that when the two pimps arrived on the scene in a car and began negotiating with the decoy customer the raiding team nabbed both the pimps and rescued the 3 victim girls.
The raid was carried out on Thursday evening. The police disclosed the name of the arrested pimps as Santosh Kumar Kar, aged 27, from Balasore-Odisha and Manjunath Belganoor, aged 25, from Aradi-Candolim.
Six mobile phones worth Rs 1,20,000, cash of Rs 20,000 and a car were attached in the raid.
The case has been registered under Sections 370, 370(3) of IPC and Sections 4, 5, 7 of Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act. The raid went on from 3 p.m to 6 p.m.
The victim girls are said to be natives of Gujarat, West Bengal and Mumbai respectively and all have been lodged in state protective home at Merces for safe custody and protection.
The police said that the accused have a criminal history wherein Santosh Kumar Kar was arrested twice in similar crimes by Calangute police in the past, while Manjunath Belganoor was arrested last year also by Calangute police.
The raiding team was led by PI Jivba Dalvi and consisted of PSI Sitaram Malik, LPSI Sapna Gawas, head constable Subhash Mavlankar, constables Vidyanand Amonkar, Sameer Sawant, Mahendra Chari and lady constables Dipika Harmalkar, Mithila Bayekar and NGO Hope Foundation member Andrea Pereira.
Further investigation of the case is in progress by PI Dalvi under the supervision of SP North Chandan Choudhary.
