Margao: PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Tuesday ordered a joint inspection of the work of missing link road from Verna to Loutolim on January 21.
The directions were issued after Loutolim panchayat
members accompanied by local MLA Wilfred D’Sa raised concern over the
“haphazard” works carried out by the department which prompted the minister to
hold immediate inspection of the controversial road.
Earlier, the panchayat members raised concerns over
several issues plaguing the controversial road and hardships faced by locals.
They informed that the mud dumped had resulted in water entering several houses
while the contractor had obstructed and destroyed a traditional water spring.
Later speaking to reporters after the meeting, D’Sa said
that the missing link passing from Verna to Loutolim has various issues. He

the eastern bypass meets the western bypass, but there are no proper provisions
for linking the two bypass roads. He said that a joint inspection will be held
in a couple of days. He said that the major concern is that the bypass will be
thrown open to traffic on January 31 and with no proper provisions it will
create a problem. He also said that the issue of traffic signals at major
crossing was raised with the minister as the signals are yet to be installed
despite assurances which were given two years back.
He said that Pauskar has assured to address the matter as
the public will face hardships while crossing the nearly 30-metre-wide highway.
He further said that the issue of several development files pending with the
PWD was also raised.
