The state government on Wednesday issued an order designating ministers Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar and Vijai Sardesai as Deputy Chief Ministers.
Dhavalikar is a leader of MGP legislature wing while Sardesai is chief and leader of Goa Forward Party.
The order was issued after newly elected Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant won the floor test on Wednesday with 20 members voting for him while 15 were in the opposition.
“The government is pleased to designate Ramakrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar, minister, and Vijai Sardesai, minister, as the ‘Deputy Chief Minister’ with immediate effect,” stated the order signed and issued by Varsha Naik, Under Secretary, general administration department.
Both the ministers were sworn in on Tuesday along with Chief Minister Sawant and other cabinet ministers.
As a part of understanding with the alliance partners, Dhavalikar and Sardesai were assured the posts of deputies in the 12-member cabinet, which was formed on Monday late
night after the demise of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
This is the second time in the history of Goa when two deputy chief ministers have been appointed in the government. Earlier in 2005, late Dr Wilfred D’Souza and Filipe Neri Rodrigues were appointed in the Pratapsing Rane government, which lasted for a few days.
