The state government has issued a notification over the ‘modified’ Laadli Laxmi Scheme. A new eligibility condition pertaining to income of girl’s parents has been introduced.
The new condition states that the fixed annual income limit of girl’s parents should not cross Rs 8 lakh.
The order pertaining to the new condition was passed on March 8.
Under the amendment, the scheme is applicable to only those girls whose parental annual income does not exceed Rs 8 lakh.
The condition is made applicable for girls who are born in the state as well as outside the state. Earlier, there was no income bar for availing the scheme.
Previously, the government had amended the scheme to extend its benefit to the daughters of state or central government employees; the employees could produce their service certificate of 25 years issued by the head of the department in lieu of the certificate of residence, however, the girl should have been born in Goa and should have studied in Goa up to Class Xth.
The Laadli Lakshmi Scheme, under which Rs1 lakh is given to girls above 18 to meet their marriage expenses, was implemented in 2012.
