Lorain D’Cunha elected Chicolna-Bogmalo sarpanch



Lorain D’Cunha was on
Thursday, elected unopposed as the
sarpanch of Chicolna-Bogmalo.

She replaced Virginia
Rodrigues who had served as the sarpanch for the last two and half years.

Minister for Panchayati
Raj Mauvin Godinho, while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the
election for the post of sarpanch, said that the notification that was issued
by the state government recently declaring 56 villages as urban areas was as
per the Census-2011, but it created misunderstanding amongst the people.

On the occasion,
Godinho launched the work of hot-mix
carpeting of the village roads, which is estimated to cost over Rs 3 crore.

Godinho announced that
Rs 70 lakh has been sanctioned by him for 27 different development works in the
jurisdiction of panchayat under grant-in-aid (GIA) scheme of the central

He said that the
notification pertaining to 56 villages as urban areas was not issued by the
panchayat department, and it done as per the Census for areas having more than
5,000 population.

The Minister for
Panchayati Raj also stated that
providing sewerage network and laying of water pipelines wherever needed in the
Dabolim constituency will be his priorities.

“People should bear with
the inconvenience caused during the laying of sewerage lines and water
pipelines in their respective areas,” said Godinho.
