Margao: Chief officer of the Margao Municipal
Council (MMC) Siddhivinayak Naik, on Monday, informed that the his office has received the order from
the director of Municipal Administration (DMA) granting administrative approval for
utilising Rs 27.11 lakh from 14th
Finance Commission grants
to construct a shed at the MMC-owned land at
Sonsoddo waste dumping site for sorting out dry waste.
The grants are sanctioned as per the proposal
received from the MMC chief officer, states the order.
“The chief officer of the
Margao Municipal Council is
directed to take up the said works
spending Rs 27, 11,030 from the grants
of Rs 2.15 crores received
under the 14th Finance Commission
by the MMC recently. The funds need to be utilised as per the guidelines laid
down by the 14 Finance Commission for the urban local bodies,” the order said.
Presently, the MMC is paying Fomento on a day-to-day
basis for the service it provides to the MMC in treating the waste at Sonsoddo
plant. The next hearing of the case is scheduled on September 30.
Pramod Sawant is on record stating that the government would appeal to
the court to hand over the plant to the
government, while the arbitration case continues.
