New Zuari bridge to be named after Parrikar

Deputy Chief Minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar Wednesday announced that the new Zuari bridge will be named after former chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
Speaking during the condolence motion moved by Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar, Dhavalikar informed the House that a request in this regard has been sent to the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways on behalf of the state
for consideration.
“We will not only name the new Zuari bridge after Parrikar but also erect his portrait on two pillars of the bridge which will be visible on either side of the bridge,” he said.
Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo, who was officiating the proceedings of the House as Speaker, paid tributes to Parrikar, former deputy chief minister Francis D’Souza and former deputy speaker Vishnu Surya Wagh.
Lobo made a suggestion to the government to name the proposed new bus stand at Mapusa after Francis D’Souza and Kala Academy’s art gallery after Vishnu Wagh as a mark of respect for their contribution to the society.
