Pernem unknown body case: police arrest brother, sister-in-law

In a major breakthrough
in the unknown body case at Pernem, the police arrested the deceased brother
and sister-in-law for committing the murder on Wednesday. The deceased was
first assaulted in a fit of rage with an iron rod and then strangulated on
Monday and subsequently the body was dumped along the Pernem-Parsem roadside.

It may be recalled that
on Tuesday, the police had found a body of an unknown male near the agriculture
office along the road to Pernem- Parsem. The body was wrapped in a bed sheet
and blanket and dumped in a trench. The body had head injury marks around the
neck. In this connection Pernem police registered a case under Section 302 of
IPC. PI Harish Madkaikar conducted the panchanama and sent the body for post
mortem.

According to police, the
deceased has been identified as Sarvesh Khadapkar (30) a resident of Guddem
Siolim who was working in a casino. Police said that on Wednesday the post mortem
was conducted on the deceased and a clear photograph was obtained which was
circulated among the investigating team. Through reliable sources the deceased
was identified.

Subsequently the house
of the deceased was kept on watch along with his elder brother Sandesh
Khadapkar, 38, sister-in-law Latika Khadapkar (28). The police team apprehended
the duo when they were leaving the house along with their belongings and
brought them to the police station. During the course of interrogation the duo
confessed of committing the murder on Monday. Under the supervision of DySP
Gajanan Prabhudessai, PI Harish Madkaikar along with PSI Alvito Rodrigues, PSI
Aditya Naik Gaonkar, PSI Praful Giri, head constables Ladu Shetye, along with
police constables Pratap Sawant, Gurudas Mandrekar, Rupesh Korgaonkar, Sadashiv
Parab, Sandesh Kinlekar, Shailesh Parsekar and LPC Kiran Parab detected the
case within a day.

Police said that the
deceased was in huge debt and used to fight with his family members and harass
them. The deceased asked his elder brother to leave the house along with his
family. However the brother refused to do so, informed police.

DySP Gajanan Dessai said
that the deceased was in debt and had borrowed a huge amount of money from his
friend who frequently visited the house at Guddem and enquired about the same
with his sister-in-law.

In order to avoid
frequent visits, the sister in- law shared the deceased mobile number with his
friends. After getting to know about the same, the deceased went home on Monday
afternoon and started fighting and abusing his sister-in-law with filthy words.
He assaulted and tore her clothes in front of her husband.

In a fit of rage the
elder brother assaulted the deceased with an iron rod and strangulated him to death.
