Police teams to be formed for crackdown on food outlets

PANAJI: The Goa police will form teams headed by a PSI in every police station to assist the directorate of food and drugs administration in its drive against foreigners who have been running illegal food outlets and not complying with provisions of the Health and Food Safety Act.
Sources said the FDA had requested the Goa police to provide a team of police personnel under a PSI to work in coordination with the FDA.
Hence the police department has directed superintendent of police of North and South Goa to coordinate with the FDA director and set up a team in each police station to assist the FDA authorities.
On Tuesday, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had claimed that the food outlets run by foreigners along the coastal belt have become dens of drug trade and that the FDA will soon start a crackdown on these non-licensed establishments like restaurants, clubs and other eateries.
