VASCO: Dabolim airport police station, which is presently located below a flyover at old airport terminal building, will be temporarily shifted into a prefabricated structure close to the exit gate of new terminal building of the airport.
The demolition work of old terminal building is going on in full swing in order to make way for extension of the integrated terminal building and provision of additional parking bays.
The police personnel attached to the airport police station have been demanding a full-fledged station, equipped with all facilities in view of the growing air traffic and also for the purpose of safety and security issues.
While their demand has gone largely unheard, they continue to adjust themselves with poor infrastructural facilities.
“The prefabricated structure is not a container, but it is an artificial structure which can be used for a short period, till further facility is made available,” said airport director Bhupesh Negi.
The police station is likely to begin functioning from the prefabricated structure by February 28.
Negi also informed that the CISF unit, which was located at old terminal building, would also be shifted temporarily in prefabricated structure next to the multi-level car-parking facility.
He disclosed that the government has allocated land for AAI, but due to some conversion issue, it has not been handed over to the AAI.
“Dabolim airport police station will get its permanent structure soon after the settlement of land conversion issue,” said Negi.
