VASCO: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, who is also the advisory committee chairman of Dabolim airport, has stated that he would stress upon the central government to rectify the problems encountered at the new integrated terminal building of Dabolim airport and also work towards providing world-class amenities there.
Sawaikar was speaking to pressmen at new Dabolim airport terminal after inspecting the airport premises along with Minister for Forest and Environment Alina Saldanha, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, officiating chairman of Dabolim airport M N N Rao, and other advisory committee members of the airport.
This was Sawaikar’s first visit to new terminal building at Dabolim airport after assuming charge of advisory committee chairman. The visit was held to take stock of the basic infrastructure facilities.
“I would especially pursue case of providing visa-on-arrival, multi-level car parking system, full-fledged police station, additional policemen and toilet facility for passengers outside the airport terminal building,” stated Sawaikar.
Sawaikar also maintained that he would stress on exhibiting Goan culture and art by displaying boards in the premises of new integrated terminal building of Dabolim airport. He also revealed that the airport advisory committee members will meet in the first week of October to review the infrastructure facilities and provide those that are not available.
Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho said that the petroleum storage tanks dumped close to the new integrated terminal building poses a great security threat to the airport and hence they need to be shifted elsewhere.
“The Indian Navy in cooperation with the Airport Authority of India should initiate steps to shift the hazardous petroleum tanks,” added Godinho. He also stressed on providing better facilities to passengers.
“Major issue of parking of vehicles at Dabolim airport will be resolved once the fly-over becomes a reality,” stated Godinho.
Vasco MLA Carlos raised strong concern over lack of toilet facility outside the terminal building, absence of network connectivity within the premises of the airport, absence of restaurant within the terminal building and non-operational multi-level car parking facility.
Minister for Environment and Forest Alina Saldanha felt that the airport needs to be equipped with added infrastructure facilities for the convenience of passengers.
“The Indian Navy should allocate their space/land considering the growth in passenger arrival,” added Saldanha.
