PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar has said that all the
households having water connections would compulsorily be given sewerage
connections as he set May 2020 deadline for issuing connections before
re-carpeting of the roads.

Speaking after a joint
meeting with MLAs of Navelim and Margao along with PWD officials, he said that
a decision has been taken that all households having water connections would
compulsorily be given sewerage connections while the public would not be
burdened as the fees would be included in the water bill.

He said a file has
already been sent to the finance department for approval, and expressed
confidence that the matter would be resolved at the earliest.

He said that
directions have also been given to the sewerage corporation and PWD to clear
all blockages along the sewerage network while also looking at streamlining the
issue of road digging, and added that the work has to be completed before May
2020.

The PWD Minister said
that directions have also been issued to release sewage connections in not just
in Margao but also Navelim.

He said that one has
to think of the impact on ground water if the sewage is continued to be
discharged into the ground 20 years from now.

On the issue of
release of treated water, he said it has been decided to release the water into
River Sal so as to maintain the flow of water and hoped they received support
from the village panchayats.

On the issue of
frequent breach of water pipeline, he said the fault has been identified and
directions have been given to address the same. Once repaired there will be no
breaches, he
added.

Speaking to reporters,
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro expressed displeasure that there is lack of
coordination within the PWD which has resulted in a mess.

Speaking to reporters,
Digambar Kamat said that he is personally monitoring the sewerage work in
Margao.
