Margao: Navelim is on its guard after two minors – a six-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl – tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic, forcing the panchayat to take a slew of measures to prevent the virus spread.
The two minors tested positive for the virus late Sunday night and were admitted to a COVID facility.
Several people underwent the COVID test, and a medical practitioner was kept in isolation after he came in contact with patients.
The test results came negative. The panchayat undertook a sanitisation drive in the village to prevent the further spread of the virus.
There has been pressure from the villagers on the local body to undertake lockdown in the village.
However, sarpanch Bebinda Gonsalves maintained that the panchayat has not taken any decision yet, as the demand needs to be discussed with panchayat members.
Recently several villages in Salcete taluka resorted to the lockdown to check the spread of the pandemic.
