The Panaji police have arrested a 25-year-old Savant
Sisodiya in connection with the alleged theft of gold ornaments worth around Rs
30 lakh during a wedding reception at a venue in the city last week.
The accused has confessed his involvement in the alleged
crime claimed the police. However the stolen gold ornaments are yet to be
recovered. Police are trying to locate the minor boy who was involved in the
crime and also if there are any other accused. Police said that Sisodiya a
resident of Madhya Pradesh was tracked down at a location in Gujarat. He was
produced before a court on Monday in the city and has been remanded to 5 days
police custody, informed police.
Police suspect that Sisodiya is part of a gang which has
similar modus operandi to target wedding venues. The accused takes help of
minor boys to lift bags from wedding venues as they don’t attract suspicion and
becomes very useful in committing the crime, police said.
It may be recalled that the theft incident had occurred
last week on Tuesday night. The gold ornaments were kept in a bag, said the
police referring to the complaint lodged by Gurunath Pai. Based on the CCTV
footage and intelligence gathered police managed to identify the accused
Sisodiya, who was seen along with the minor boy. Referring to the CCTV footage,
the police said that the boy was seen lifting the bag reportedly containing the
gold ornaments. The boy later walks away with the man, said police.
