Zuarinagar residents block road in protest against movement of heavy vehicles

Tension prevailed at Zuarinagar in Sancoale on Monday morning after some agitated people blocked the internal road leading to MES College in order to stop the movement of heavy vehicles on the grounds that they endanger the lives of students and people residing in the area.
As per information, the deputy sarpanch of Sancoale Nandini Desai, Cortalim BJP general secretary Maruti Desai along with other residents of Vidyanagar residential area stopped the heavy vehicles which were plying along the narrow road leading to MES College, Zuarinagar.
The deputy sarpanch Desai informed that the residents were forced to come on the road after the promoters of a residential project failed to make any necessary arrangement for infrastructure facilities while transporting their material.
“The heavy vehicles involved in transporting construction material are now using the internal narrow road. The movement of vehicles has become a threat to the lives of the students and even people who reside in the locality,” said Desai. The agitated residents have threatened to block the four-lane highway NH-17B, if the concerned government authorities fail to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles from the internal road.
Executive magistrate Mormugao Vimod Dalal and Verna police personnel rushed to the site. After an assurance from the executive magistrate about holding a joint meeting of the residents and the project promoter, the agitated people disbursed from the site.
